A bit about the beer
Ingredients – Water, heavy weight hops from the US, British malt
Sharp's Brewery was founded in 1994 in St Minver Lowlands, Rock, Cornwell by Bill Sharp. The brewery has been owned by Molson Coors since 2011. The brewery is probably best known for Doom Bar, its flagship Ale, named after the perilous Doom Bar sandbank in north Cornwall.
Similar to Doom Bar, Wolf Rock Red IPA also gets its inspiration from the sea. The infamous reef Wolf Rock, lying eight nautical miles off Land’s End, forms the inspiration for this bold and enticing Red IPA. Named after the eerie howl that once echoed over the Atlantic Ocean as wind forced its way through the rock's craggy granite fissures, the reef is now home to Wolf Rock lighthouse.
As for the beer, I thoroughly enjoyed this Red IPA. It is called Red IPA since it is a fusion of Red Ale and IPA styles of brewing. Poured from a 500ml bottle it has a very beautiful red-brown colour with a slightly off-white foamy head. As per the official description there are aromas of ripe fruit, roast malt and spices and tastes of citrus and berry fruit is prominent. I could definitely get the fruitiness and spices and the taste has a little sweetness which is nicely offset by the bitter aftertaste. It doesn't have the overwhelming bitterness of the more hardcore IPAs, instead just a nice pleasant fruity hoppiness.
Best served very cold, and very enjoyable on a warm day. A very enjoyable beer overall!
