A bit about the beer

Fourpure Brewing has had an interesting journey since they started brewing in 2013. Founded by two brothers - Dan (homebrewer and beer enthusiast) and Tom (traveling the West Coast of the U.S. and experiencing the front runners in the modern beer scene). The two decided to bring together their passion for beer and the innovative methods of modern breweries which Tom experienced in the West Coast. The result - Fourpure Brewing Company.

Some of the highlights of the brewery and what they have achieved in a short space of time include:

2013 - Dan and Tom set up Fourpure, aiming to take beer lovers on a journey of new tastes and flavours.

2014 - They became the first UK-based craft brewery to can their full core range.

2017 - Installed and commissioned a fully-automated, state of the art GEA Craft-Star brewhouse.

2017 - Awarded Most Innovative Brewery and Brewery Business of the Year at the Society of Independent Brewers annual awards.

2019 - a major rebranding of the company happened.

Fourpure's Shapeshifter gets its inspiration from adventure, those hard to find places that are off the beaten track. This is what the West Coast of the U.S. which offers - from bustling cities, beautiful beaches, deep lakes and dense forests.

The official description of Shapeshifter is that it "offers hop-forward mango and grapefruit, delivering intense, tropical flavours".

For me, poured from a can it gives a light gold colour which is slightly hazy with a nice thick frothy white head. Aromas of mango is very, very prominent along with some other tropical fruit such as grapefruit. It really has an amazing smell and a taste to match! Tastes of fruity hops and malt as well as the usual IPA tastes of grapefruit and slight notes of mango and melon combines perfectly with the bitterness which is low but still very present, especially in the aftertaste.

This is a great tasting beer with amazing aromas. Probably not the most complex IPA out there, but great tasting and will definitely be a regular on the shopping list in future!
