For a bit of history about Magic Rock Brewing, check out a previous post about another offering from this brewery - CannonBall IPA.

If you are from, or find yourself around the towns of Huddersfield or Holmfirth in the UK, then be sure to visit one of the brewery's two tap rooms and enjoy their range of great beers!

The Dark Arts Surreal Stout has a commercial description by the brewery of "blending five different malts and bags of whole hops to deliver a decadently deep and indulgent experience. A luxuriously smooth mouthfeel is followed by spicy hop notes and full flavours of chocolate, liquorice, blackberries and figs. Rich and satisfying – this stout will convert you to the dark side".

Poured from a can (as per their website, this beer is vegan as it only comes in can and keg) with a similar design to the others in the Magic Rock series, the beer is completely black with a decent tanned creamy head that lasts. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts are very present followed by hints of toasted or even slightly burnt coffee, cocoa, roasted malts and figs in the taste. It has a slight bitterness in the aftertaste and the roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavours lingers well after.

This is a very solid stout, very pleasant to drink and with plenty of flavours. A great welcome to the dark side!
