For a bit of background on Magic Rock, have a look at a previous post on their Cannonball IPA.

Officially the Common Grounds Coffee Porter is described as "a full-bodied, decadently smooth coffee beer in collaboration with local roaster Dark Woods. 7 different malts combine with 7 different coffees added at 3 different points during the brew to create a sweet toffee, rich fruit and chocolate depth, accented with notes of vanilla, and hazelnut. A coffee beer designed with texture, aroma and deliciousness in mind, brewed to celebrate locality and a shared philosophy in creative quality".

For me, poured from can (again, their can art is amazing as always) it has a very dark brown colour, almost bordering on black, with a very thin white head with medium retention. Aromas of roasted coffee, dark fruits and chocolate combines very well to deliver a very pleasant initial experience. Coffee overwhelms the taste a little, it overpowers the dark fruits, vanilla, chocolate and hazelnut mentioned in the official description. The aftertaste is bitter and has a slight burn at the end. If the balance of flavours could have been slightly better in the taste this would have been a truly amazing beer.

In the end, not a bad coffee porter, but could have been amazing!
