The official description for Blood Red Sky is that it "sets a scene. Warm Caribbean sand, flickering candles, cold beer and anticipation of the night to come. From this place came the inspiration for this brew. Jamaican rum barrels meet Scottish red beer in an explosion of cool, spicy rum notes, vanilla and rich fruit".
The beer is brewed using a unique barrel into beer method, turning the traditional method of beer into barrel process on its head without compromising any of the wonderful flavours and aromas from the barrel.
For me, it poured a beautiful rich dark red colour with a long lasting white head. Aromas of dried fruits (raisins and plums), spiced rum and hints of chocolate comes through. Tastes of vanilla, dark fruits, caramel and spices are very present and enriched with the subtle notes coming from the barrel aging and rum finish. It has a mostly dry finish and bitterness that lingers.
Amazing character in this beer, the barrel aging just adds so much flavour and complexity to it. Every sip is an experience and you just wish the beer would never end.
