A bit about the beer

Ingredients - Water, Wheat Malt, Barley Malt, Hops

Founded in 1886 by Johann Kienle, today Erdinger is the world's largest wheat beer brewery. It is especially popular across Germany and other parts of the European Union. The brewery only received its current name in 1949 from its then owner Franz Brombach who acquired the brewery 14 years prior to changing its name. Today the brewery is still in the family, with Franz Brombach's son, Werner Brombach being in charge since 1975.

Having its roots in Bavaria, the brewery has been brewing exclusively in Erding since 1886 – every single bottle. They have also never brewed anything else than the Bavarian specialty “weissbier”.

The official description for Erdinger Kristall is that it is "crystal-clear with an inviting frothy head: this lively wheat beer specialty features fruity-fresh aromas. With its extra portion of sparkling and energizing carbonic acid, ERDINGER Kristall is especially refreshing! Strong malted wheat notes combine with an elegant hop bouquet to round off the finish. It gets its shining, crystal-clear appearance from intensive filtration. Those who feel traditional Bavarian wheat beer is a little too cloudy will love the clarity of this top-quality ERDINGER beer".

For me, poured from a 500ml bottle, it has a clear golden colour with a white foamy head. Aromas of bubblegum, mild fruits and grain is present giving it a very pleasant smell. The taste is smooth and slightly malty but you don't get the same notes as on the smell, rather generic wheat beer taste which is a little let down after the smell. The finish has some good lingering bitterness.

Overall an enjoyable beer and definitely one I will have again.
