A bit about the beer

Ingredients – Water, malt, yeast

Founded in 2010, the brewery was soon ready for production and was aiming for their first bottles to hit the shelves the same year but due to the conflict that broke out in Syria the factory had to shut down for some time and the beer officially only launched in 2017. Situated in Adra Industrial Zone, in the northeastern suburbs of Damascus, the capital of Syria, Afamia brewery invested in state-of-the-art equipment together with European beer making expertise and raw materials to produce Syria's first premium beer. They also produce Afamia Extra Strong, with 8.5% alcohol.

For me, poured from a bottle it has a very light golden colour with a very faint white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas are malty and grainy which follows through to the taste, along with some very faint notes of citrus and straw and a light bitterness. The aftertaste is also very lightly bitter.

It is an ok beer, nothing spectacular but also not too bad. I think they did a decent job considering it comes from a country which you would not associate with brewing beer.
